FAQ
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is Apple's high-efficiency photo format, used by default on iPhones since iOS 11. Many Windows apps and websites still can't open it.
Can I stop my iPhone saving HEIC?
Yes. Go to Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible. Existing photos stay HEIC, so convert those here.
Is the location data kept?
No. The converted JPG is re-drawn from the pixels, so GPS and other EXIF metadata are removed, which is a privacy bonus.
